About Us
Second Wind Lung Transplant Association, Inc. was formed on April 17, 1995, by a small group of people who wanted to provide information about lung transplantation to others. At that time lung transplantation was evolving from an experimental and rarely applied treatment to becoming a more common therapy for end-stage lung disease The slogan “Support through Service” was adopted, as was our mission statement:
To improve the quality of life for lung transplant recipients, lung surgery candidates, people with related pulmonary concerns and their families, by providing support, advocacy, education, information and guidance through a spirit of service, adding years to their lives and life to their years.
Today, Second Wind is a registered 501(3) (c) non-profit international organization with over 400 members scattered throughout the United States and in Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
